State-of-the-Art Hygiene Therapy at Malone & Costa Dentistry!

State-of-the-Art Hygiene Therapy at Malone & Costa Dentistry!

Did you know that the profession of Dental Hygiene began in 1906 – about the same time that the Model T started rolling out! Back then, the only technology a hygienist had was a set of sharp metal instruments and a spinning brush of gritty pumice. Then in the 1950’s, ultrasonic technology was invented which helped to disrupt oral bacteria, but still required follow-up with scalers and polishers. Now, 115 years after the first hygienist started her crusade for oral health, dental professionals understand so much more about the role of oral bacteria in human bodies. Research shows that some of the bacteria found in the oral cavity can cause whole-body inflammation – ultimately contributing to conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and more. Well, we have some great news! The next fantastic technological leap has occurred that will allow our hygienists to eliminate that harmful bacteria! Gone are the days of metal instruments scraping the sides of your teeth…..and no more gritty polishing!

Malone & Costa Dentistry is excited to announce implementation of an innovative system for hygiene services called Guided Biofilm Therapy. We invested in this modern, Swiss-Engineered technology to help our patients not only prolong the lifespan of their teeth and restorations by preventing oral disease, but also improve their overall health. Our highly trained hygienists are certified in this new technology which will allow them to provide healthy mouth and healthy body benefits that surpass anything we’ve been able to provide in the past.

Guided Biofilm Therapy technology provides a more comfortable experience, superior stain removal and complete disruption of bacteria (biofilm). A safe and pleasant-tasting erythritol powder mixes with warm water to completely eliminate the bacteria (biofilm) that causes inflammation and disease. It also reaches into places where the old instruments couldn’t remove stains and tartar. Scientific research has proven this new product to be the gentlest and most efficient way to eliminate bacteria around cosmetic work and titanium implants, on enamel and root surfaces, and even soft tissues. It is more efficient and more reliable than old traditional methods, and you don’t have to worry about your hygienist getting “heavy handed” with the old scalers!

Malone & Costa Dentistry is proud to be the first Certified Guided Biofilm Therapy provider in the Knoxville area. We are looking forward to sharing our excitement with you at your next dental hygiene visit.
