Dr. Stephen Malone received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine Degree from the University of Louisville in 1994 and has practiced dentistry in Knoxville for over 20 years. He believes in the value of continuing dental education and has pursued hands-on and mentored advanced dental education every year since earning his doctorate. He participates in multiple dental study clubs and professional organizations, where he has taken a leadership role.
Among the continuing education programs he has attended, The Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education is noteworthy. He was the youngest dentist to earn the status of Pankey Scholar at this world-renowned post-doctoral educational institution, and he is a member of its visiting faculty, a lead faculty member, as well as an Essentials Coordinator.
Dr. Malone’s intense study in specialty treatment areas and general dentistry enables him to provide you with high quality, comprehensive dentistry in a way that puts you, the patient, at the center. Not only does he care for you and about you, but he also intentionally takes time to understand your concerns and goals, and to collaborate with you in developing a plan for your mouth that will provide optimal oral health, comfort, function, and esthetic beauty for the many years to come.
General dentistry is often – and incorrectly – believed to be just about teeth. Rather, it involves studying, diagnosing, treating – and preventing – problems with teeth, gums, mouth, jaws and adjacent parts of the body. In his work in our Knoxville office, Dr. Malone is supported in this work by an exceptional team of professionals.

After graduate school, he stayed in Chapel Hill to study dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry. where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 2014.
After dental school, Dr. Costa further expanded his dental skills by completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry at Camp Lejeune, NC where he also served as an Active Duty Naval Dental Officer and provided dental services to thousands of Marines and Sailors.
During and after military service, Dr. Costa worked as the lead dentist in a large group practice in Wilmington, NC. As the sole dentist in a large satellite practice, he offered advanced dental procedures to a diverse population with a heavy emphasis on oral surgery and replacing missing teeth with dental implants, bone grafting procedures, and implant-supported dentures.
Most recently, Dr. Costa has become a Key Opinion Leader for the Yomi Dental Robot and a Certified Provider for Instarisa, the most advanced 3D facial scanner. Dr. Costa also serves as an Associate Faculty member at the prestigious Pankey Institute to help teach other dentists advanced skills. Dr. Costa prides himself on making patients feel very comfortable and at ease during surgical procedures and offers comprehensive sedation options. You will be treated as a special individual, deserving of the best experience. With knowledge and skill, he will take appropriate measures to relieve anxiety and ensure your treatment is pain-free.

Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that actively move the teeth to more ideal positions over time. Patients love this treatment because they can re-align their teeth without having to wear traditional metal braces.
• Enjoy snacks anytime: Simply remove your aligners to eat or drink. • Prioritize oral hygiene: Take out your Invisalign aligners for regular brushing and flossing. • Freedom for special occasions: Occasionally remove your aligners for a night out. • Seamless integration: Maintain your daily routine while straightening your teeth. • Confidence in your smile: Invisalign aligners are clear, so you can smile without hesitation. • Ready for special moments: Easily achieve a picture-perfect smile with Invisalign treatment. • Convenient appointments: Align your treatment visits with your schedule for quick progress checks every six weeks.
The Invisalign system offers a nearly invisible method to align your teeth and achieve your desired smile. Utilizing advanced 3D computer imaging technology, Invisalign treatment maps out your entire process, starting from your teeth's initial positioning to your desired final alignment.
Custom-made clear aligners are then created specifically for your teeth, gradually moving them with each set. You wear each aligner for approximately two weeks before switching to the next in the series, progressing until your teeth reach their desired alignment.
The duration of your Invisalign treatment will be determined by your doctor, tailored to meet your individual requirements.
Invisalign aligners are clear, seamlessly integrating into your lifestyle and social interactions. Their removability offers flexibility; you can enjoy your favorite foods and beverages by simply taking them out while eating. Additionally, you can maintain regular brushing and flossing for fresh breath and optimal oral hygiene.
In contrast to traditional metal braces, Invisalign treatment avoids metal brackets and wires that may irritate your mouth. Moreover, you'll
experience fewer visits to the doctor and appointments, allowing you more time to enjoy your favorite activities.
Finally, with Invisalign treatment technology, you can preview your virtual results and treatment plan beforehand, giving you a glimpse of your future straightened smile.
